Meadow’s Brandon Flores aims for a jump shot. Flores, a junior for the Broncos, will compete in Australia this summer.
Brandon Flores’ basketball career has taken him all over West Texas, but now it’s about to take him quite a way farther.
Flores, a junior at Meadow High School and the son of Raymond and Jamie Flores, will see quite a change in scenery this summer when he shoots in Down Under Sports Tournaments, hosted on the Gold Coast of Australia. Flores will represent the North Central Conference Boys Basketball Team.
Flores told the News he is looking forward to the cross-Atlantic trip and the opportunities not only to see a new continent, but to play his favorite sport there.
"I’m pretty excited,” he said. "I get to go far away from home, and I get to do the thing I love to do - play basketball,” he said.
Flores is also planning a side trip to Hawaii on the way back from Australia.
"It should be fun,” he said.
Down Under Sports was founded 1989 by New Zealander George O’Scanlon, according to a press release from the organization. Its other programs for 2013 will include competition in track and field, cross country, wrestling, football, volleyball and basketball.
