Broncos to face defending state champs

The Meadow Broncos will face Borden County at 7:30 p.m. Friday in O’Donnell in their first round of playoff action.
The playoffs are here, and Meadow isn’t wasting any time with easy matches.
The Broncos’ bi-district opponents - Borden County - are no less than the defending state champions two years running.
The Broncos and Coyotes (both 8-2) will meet in O’Donnell Friday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
Kent Allison told the News that because facing the top six-man team in Texas had always been a possibility, he and his herd of Broncos spent their earlier-season games and practices anticipating nothing less.
"We thought, ‘Let’s get ready for the worst-case scenario,’” he said. "We were going to have to play them eventually. It will be a battle - they’re physical and strong.”
The eighth-ranked Coyotes have returned several starters, including talented senior running back Tanner Richie. To keep them from making a third successive trip to Abilene, the Broncos are focused on defending his possessions.
Returning to a few Broncos to the field after they’ve been able to recover from injuries will also give them a better chance at a win and an accompanying longer playoff stretch.
"We’ve got to use our depth again and try to keep fresh players out there,” Allison said. "Some people may think I’m crazy, but I think we’ve got a shot, especially if we keep getting healthy.”
