Wellman-Union’s pack of runners earned a fourth-place team finish at last weekend’s District 6-A cross-country meet.
The Wildcats barely missed third place and its accompanying chance to run in the Region I-A Championships.
The top individual finisher for the Wildcats was Edward Chavez in 12th place, followed by Robert Steiger in 17th, Martin Loewen in 18th, Vincent Tedford in 38th and Steve Olivas in 42nd.
"Overall, I felt we competed well,” said Coach Eric Erwin. "Our overall inexperience showed in spots, but that sometimes happens with a very young team.”
In the junior high boys division, Luis Escobedo won a medal as the 15th place finisher, while teammate Gavyn Freeman finished in 34th.
