Juanda Luree Hancock (1927-2012)
Juanda Hancock of Belton, formerly of Borden County, passed from this world at 11:20 p.m. on October 15, 2012 at age 85. She was born January 3, 1927 in Seagraves to James W. and Nancy Elizabeth (Duncan) Taylor.
Juanda graduated from Lubbock High and attended Texas Tech University. On March 8, 1947, Juanda married Weldon Hancock and moved to start a family on a cotton farm in Borden County. She actively participated in farming, school, community, and church activities. Juanda and Weldon were members of square dance clubs in Lamesa, Brownfield, and Lubbock. They also traveled with RV clubs in West Texas.
With the passing of her husband of 52 years (Weldon Hancock) Juanda moved to Belton in 1999. During her 13 years in Belton, Juanda was an active participant in New Beginnings, Newcomers, the Belton Senior Center, activities at the First United Methodist Church, and volunteered at the Scott & White Memorial Hospital and Park Place Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Belton.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Sandra Cunningham (and Rick) of Ranger, Sue Brown (and Ron) of Belton; two sons, Tommy Hancock (and Stacy) of Cloudcroft, N.M., Joe Hancock (and Melissa) of Manhattan, Kan.; sister-in-law Helen Taylor of Marble Falls; six grandchildren, Keith Hancock (and Jennifer), Cammy McGuire (and Pat), Mandy Scott (and Brad), Lynsey Coker (and Brian), Clint Brown and Whitney Brown; seven great-grandchildren, Garrett Hancock, Susan and Christi McGuire, Drew and Carly Coker, Nolan and Brooke Scott.
Juanda is preceded in death by her parents; husband Weldon; two sisters and two brothers.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Belton. Visitation will be from 7-8:30 Thursday, Oct. 18 at Combest Family Funeral Home in Tahoka. Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2012, at Gail Cemetery in Gail.
