Wellman-Union’s pack of Wildcats placed 11th Saturday at O’Donnell’s "Romp in the Park” cross-country meet.
Most of the ‘Cats’ competitors were varsity runners from 3A and 2A schools.
Top individuals were Edward Chavez, 34th place; Martin Loewen, 52nd; Robert Steiger, 54th; Vincent Tedford, 73rd and Steve Olivas, 81st.
"We actually competed OK relative to the other Class A schools in our division and those from our district,” said Coach Eric Erwin. "If we step up just a notch at district, we could be very competitive there.”
The "Romp in the Park” was the last meet in preparation for the District 6-A meet, which will be held Oct. 22 on the same course with high school races beginning at 10 a.m. and junior high starting at 4 p.m.
Junior high boys results included Luis Escobedo, 46th and Gavyn Freeman, 113th. Escobedo is likely to win an individual medal if he continues improving, Erwin said.
