OBITUARY: JAMES TURNER

Services for James F. Turner, 71, of Brownfield were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Brownfield First United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Hensley and Rev. Ruby Moultrie officiating. Burial was in Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

A family visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Brownfield Funeral Home.

James passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 at a Lubbock Hospital. He was born May 4, 1941 in Sweetwater to Fred H. and Glena (McHaney) Turner. He graduated from Brownfield High School in 1959.

James married his high school sweetheart, Sharon K. (Snedeker), in Brownfield on May 31, 1959. James and Sharon began their farming career in Fisher County, moving to Sylvester in 1959, and returned to Terry County in 1963 and continued to farm.

James served on numerous boards including the following: Tokio Coop Gin Board of Directors, Received the Terry County Outstanding Dryland Farmer Award in 1978, Terry County Farmers Home Administration Board, Brownfield First National Bank, Board of Directors, Farmers Coop Gin, Board of Directors, Brownfield Regional Hospital, Board of Director, Newman Cemetery Board of Director, and Lone Star State Bank of West Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents. James was a member of First United Methodist Church.

James is survived by his wife, Sharon of Brownfield; two daughters, Deborah Turner Kennedy and husband Dwight of Ovilla and Kathy Turner Jones of Conroe/Montgomery; grandchildren, Tandi Jones Moore and husband Matt of Marshall, Kimberlee Jones Turner and husband Stoney of Seminole, and Dixie Kay Kennedy of Denton; great grandchildren, Cade Turner Moore and Dallas Rein Turner; sisters, Janey Turner Bartley of Nuevo, Calif., and Patricia Turner of Montalibelli, Plano.

The family suggests memorials to Brownfield First United Methodist Church.
