Tuesday night’s match-up between the Dawson Dragons and the Wellman-Union Wildcats ended in defeat for both the Varsity girls and boys teams.

The Lady ‘Cats and Lady Dragons started out the evening with Dawson winning 54-48.

The high point earners for the Lady ‘Cats were Rosa Olivas with 15 and Sierra Wheatley 10 points.

The ‘Cats and the Dragons then took the hardwood with Dawson burning Wellman-Union 75-34.

The ‘Cats were never able to get a foothold as the first quarter ended with Wellman-Union scoring 9.  By the end of the end of the half

Meadow-Union had scored 14 and Dawson had scored Dawson 32.

By the end of the third period Wellman-Union had only scored 21 while Dawson had picked up the pace with 52.

It’s another loss for the Wellman-Union ‘Cats who also hit the court against the Whitharral Panthers last Friday with Wellman-Union losing 29-47.

Never pulling ahead, Wellman-Union had nine points at the end of the first period with the Cougars scoring 14.

By the end of the second period, Wellman-Union had scored 13 points compared to Whitharral’s 19.  After the third period buzzer, Wellman-Union had scored 21 and Whitharral had scored 40.

“I thought we played hard, but just had trouble putting the ball in the basket,” said W-U Head Coach JoeBob Ussery. “We played good defense, but they had a big man in the middle."
