Tuesday night’s game at Lubbock Cooper was one of big runs and large swings that saw both teams build double-digit leads then let them slip away on more than one occasion, before the Pirates took the win by just three points as time expired with the Cubs shooting rom behind the arc to no avail.

The Cubs quickly built a double digit lead early in the first quarter with a 13-2 run, but the Pirates fought back to closethe gap to just one point by the end of the frame, 19-18.

They kept their hot streak alive and dominated the second quarter to take a 10-point lead into the locker room at halftime, on top, 36-26.

The third quarter was Brownfield’s turn to make a big run, out scoring the pirates, 24-7 to carry a 50-43 lead over the Pirates into the final frame.

But the Cooper squad stole the momentum again with a 15-5 quarter that was good enough to go up by three points with under a minute to play.
Brownfield coach Dustin Faught called a time out with less than 10 seconds on the clock.

The Cubs inbounded and Korey Nolan put up a well-placed three-pointer from the top of the arc, but the ball hit the inside of the rim and bounded to the left side.

Sha’Colby Hill rebounded the ball and put up an off-balanced attempt to beat the buzzer, but couldn’t make it fall.

Cooper took the rebound and the win as the buzzer sounded.

The Cubs were led by Hill, with 18 points on the night and six rebounds and an assist.

Jordan Demps followed that with 14 points and five assists.

Eliseo Salas, Malcolm Rainwater and Alex McCreary each added five points against the Pirates.

Salas had three assists and one rebound, while Rainwater had five rebounds and McCreary had four assists and five rebounds of his own.

Korey Nolan was good for four points in the contest, one assist and one rebound.

Coby Serbantez and Josh Fininen both contributed two points.
