The longstanding rivalry between the Meadow Broncos and the Ropes Eagles heated up despite the bitter chill Friday night as football fans on both sides of the Ropes field thrummed the bleachers in hopes of spurring one of their teams to a victory.
But after putting up a strong defense, the Meadow Broncos couldn’t pull off the victory losing to Ropes 62-30.
The first score of the night belonged the Ropes with 7:21 left on the clock for the first quarter. The PAT was good bringing the score to 8 Ropes, Meadow 0.
The Broncos tightened up on defense and kept Ropes from scoring until the second quarter when the Eagles scored again with 6:53 left on the clock in the second quarter. Ropes made the PAT bringing the score Ropes 16, Meadow 0.
The Broncos allowed another score by Ropes with 4:06 left in the second quarter. Ropes made the PAT bringing the scored to 24 Ropes, Meadow 0.
The Broncos got their first score of the night with 2:13 left in the second quarter when Gavon Gardner caught a pass from Trey Herrera and ran 47 yards for a touchdown. Eddie Hernandez made the PAT bringing the score a little closer with Ropes 24, Meadow 8.
The flock of Eagles struck again with 5:39 left in the third quarter. With the PAT, Ropes brought the score to 32 to 8.
The Broncos came back to score with 1:38 left in the third quarter with a touchdown from Mason Davila. Eddie Hernandez made the PAT bringing the score to 32 Ropes, 16 Meadow.
The next score on the board belonged to Ropes with 1:09 left in the third quarter. Ropes made the PAT bringing the score to 40 Ropes, Meadow 16.
The next score on the board belonged to Meadow with 9:41 left in the fourth quarter with a touchdown from Adrian Perez. Eddie Hernandez made the PAT bringing the score to Ropes 40, Meadow 24.
With 9:18 left in the fourth quarter, Ropes scored again without the PAT bringing the score to 46 Ropes, 24 Meadow.
The crowd on Meadow’s side began to chant "Fire up Broncos, fire up,” after Mason Davila scored with 7:55 left in the fourth quarter. That brought the score to Ropes 46, Meadow 30.
Ropes put a little more distance between them and Meadow when they scored with 5:33 left in the fourth quarter. Blake Harris made the PAT making the score Ropes 54, Meadow 30.
The final score of the night belonged to Ropes with just 1:56 left on the clock. Lawrence Cruz made the final touchdown for the night. The PAT was good bringing the final score to 62 Ropes, 30 Meadow.
Meadow goes on to play Whiteface next week with at Meadow.
