The Brownfield Lady Cubs ran to their second consecutive District title Monday in the District Cross Country meet held in Lubbock’s Mae Simmons Park.
It was a banner day for the Brownfield Cross Country program, which saw the Varsity and Junior Varsity runners racing in Lubbock in the morning and the BMS runners doing the same in Lamesa in the afternoon.
Overall the program, headed up by coach Amy Villasenor, brought home three District titles, eight regional qualifications and 53 individual medals.
Regional qualifiers will run again at Mae Simmons Park on November 2.
The Varsity Lady Cubs’ strong showing Monday was evidenced in the fact that the BHS team members comprised seven of the top 12 finishers in the two-mile race.
The girls team finished in first place with a total time of 1:11:55.10, with an average finish of 14:23.02.
That average was a full 20 seconds better than the average time of the second place team from Denver City, which posted an average time of 14:44.90.
The Lady Cubs were led by Annalysa Gonzales, who finished second overall with a time of 14:07.20 and Symphony Munoz who followed her across the finish line in third place with a time of 14:10.80.
Crossing the finish line next was a trio of Lady Cubs, including: Ivory Gonzales (8th, 14:30.50); Victoria DeLuna (9th, 14:31.70) and Victoria Castro (10th, 14:34.90).
Only one spot and 10 seconds separated the last two Brownfield runners to finish the race: Maria-Elena Guerrero (12th, 14:44.60) and Katlyn Rogers (13th, 14:47.30).
Denver City followed the Lady Cubs in the team standings and Stanton took third place.
The Lady Cubs’ Junior Varsity squad also won the District title Monday with a first place finish with a total time of 1:21:23.10 and an average time of 16:16.62.
BHS runner Carolina Ramirez Huerta finished the race in first place, 23 seconds ahead of Matti Flores, also representing the Lady Cubs.
Brownfield runners Rebbeca Salas, Desiray Bean and Alyssa Rodriguez finished in 4th, 5th and 6th places, respectively.
Alycia Rodriguez came in 11th and Katie Jo Carr rounded out the Brownfield racers with a 13th place finish.
In the Varsity Boys race, Brownfield Cub Miguel Guerrero finished in second place, just 7-10ths of a second off the pace of the first place finisher.
Guerrero turned in a time of 18:24.60 in the three-mile race for the silver medal.
Cub Ishmael Galindo finished in 21:01.00 for 13th place.
BHS runners Dylan Morin and Mario Cantano came in 23rd and 24th places with respective times of 23:03.90 and 23:06.60.
Josh Duran was the final Cub to cross the finish line in 27th place with a time of 24:09.40.
The team finished in fourth place with a total time of 1:49:45.50 and an average time of 21:57.10, just 20 seconds off the third place finish of Coahoma.
The Denver City boys took gold in the team standings, followed by Stanton.
In the Junior High District meet Monday afternoon in Lamesa, the Brownfield Cubs finished in first place with a team total of 1:08:36.
The Cubs were represented with a first place finish by Alfredo Lozano and a second place finish by Isaiah Garibaldo.

BMS runner Jason Cabe finished in seventh place, followed by Ray Ortega in eighth.
Ethan Leon, Xavier Guzman and Dobson Munoz rounded out the young Cubs’ effort with 13th, 19th and 24th place finishes.
In the Junior High girls race, Lady Cub Angenlina Garcia finished in third place, followed by Mercedes Tapia in 21st and Sorida Amera in 22nd.
